Psychology Extern

Cara Weiner is a psychology extern at CBC where she conducts individual, family and group therapies with children, adolescents and adults. She is currently a fourth-year doctoral student in the Clinical Psychology Program at Ferkauf Graduate School of Psychology, Yeshiva University. She received her B.A in Psychology from the University of Michigan, Ann Arbor, MI. Cara has extensive training in Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) for clients in outpatient settings who are struggling with stress, anxiety, depression, and difficulties regulating emotions. She earned her bachelor’s degree in psychology from University of Michigan.

Prior to working at CBC, she served as a psychology extern at Marymount Manhattan College’s Counseling and Wellness Center where she treated college students experiencing various mental health disorders including major depressive disorder, generalized anxiety disorder and adjustment disorders. More recently, Cara was a psychology extern at Mount Sinai’s Eating and Weight Disorder Program (EWDP). At Mount Sinai, Cara worked with children, adolescents and adults using evidence-based treatments to treat eating disorders and co-existing mental health conditions. In addition, Cara was trained in Maudsley’s Family Based Therapy (FBT) to treat families of adolescents with Anorexia Nervosa. She also conducted neuropsychological assessments to evaluate cognitive and personality functioning. Lastly, Cara has training in DBT and co-leads DBT skills groups at CBC.

Her research interests include adolescent emotion regulation and non-suicidal self-injury, adolescent body image, and intergenerational transmission of pathology.
