Jake Samuels is a predoctoral intern at CBC. He currently conducts individual, family, and group therapy with patients across the lifespan. Jake earned his M.A. in Clinical Psychology from Fordham University, where he is currently completing his Ph.D. Jake earned his B.A. from Amherst College with a double major in Psychology and Music.
Jake has worked in outpatient and inpatient hospital settings, community mental health clinics, and university counseling centers with children, adolescents, adults, and families. He has been intensively trained in multiple evidence-based treatment modalities including Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), and Cognitive Processing Therapy (CPT). Jake has delivered services to individuals with a variety of presenting concerns, including ADHD, anxiety, depression, bipolar disorder, OCD, personality disorders, substance use disorders, and PTSD.
Jake strives to create a comfortable and nurturing environment that fosters vulnerability and growth with a focus on empowerment. Jake adheres to the biopsychosocial model of case conceptualization and takes a comprehensive, dynamic approach to understanding clients. Jake attends to ecological systems (family, community, cultural, historical) in contextualizing an individual’s well-being and functioning to develop a comprehensive picture of their presenting concerns and contributing factors. Jake tailors his therapeutic approach to clients’ values and goals, working collaboratively to create and maintain a supportive process that empowers individuals to be active participants in their therapy.
