Sydney Slater, MS

Psychology Extern

Sydney Slater, M.S., is a psychology extern at CBC where she conducts individual, family and group psychotherapy with children, adolescents and adults. She is currently a fourth-year doctoral student in the Combined School-Clinical Child PsyD program at Ferkauf Graduate School of Psychology. Sydney earned her bachelor’s degree in psychology at Bucknell University, and her master’s degree in School Psychology at Ferkauf Graduate School of Psychology.

Sydney has received intensive training in Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) and Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT). Prior to her clinical externship at CBC, Sydney was a student therapist in the CBT practicum at the Parnes Clinic at Yeshiva University, providing weekly individual therapy using CBT, DBT, and Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT). In addition, Sydney conducted neuropsychological assessments for school-aged patients and worked closely with the families of these children at Yeshiva University's Center for psychological and psychoeducational service. At CBC, Sydney has participated as a counselor in many intensive group treatment sessions for children with Selective Mutism.

Sydney also worked as a psychology extern at the New York Center for Children, a trauma mental health clinic, where she provided weekly individual and family therapy to children and adolescents using evidence-based interventions for PTSD and a variety of anxiety and mood disorders. She also was an extern at the Pleasantville High School, where she provided individual counseling sessions for adolescents with emotional disabilities and developmental disabilities.

Sydney’s research focuses on the frequency of shared parent-child reading, specifically with children with ADHD symptomatology, on children’s academic functioning.
