Dr. Amy Walker is a full-time licensed psychologist and the Assistant Clinical Director at CBC. Dr. Walker has expertise in Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) and Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) for children, adolescents, adults, and families. Dr. Walker has extensive experience in the implementation of evidence-based treatments for anxiety, mood and autism spectrum disorders across the lifespan. Her specializations include the treatment of depression, disruptive mood dysregulation disorder, generalized anxiety disorder, social anxiety, specific phobias, post-traumatic stress disorder, and autism spectrum disorders.
In addition, Dr. Walker also specializes in parent training and evidence-based approaches for ADHD, oppositional defiant disorder and disruptive mood dysregulation disorder. Dr. Walker has been intensively trained in DBT and has received training in DBT for Children (DBT-C) and the DBT Prolonged Exposure Protocol (DBT PE). At CBC, Dr. Walker co-leads DBT Skills groups and provides individual/family therapy to children, adolescents and adults as part of the DBT Program. She also consults to school districts implementing DBT and CBT.
Dr. Walker received her Bachelor of Arts degree in Psychology and Spanish from Emory University, her Master of Arts degree from New York University and her Doctor of Philosophy degree in Clinical Psychology (Child Track) from St. John’s University. She completed her Post-Doctoral Fellowship at New York-Presbyterian Hospital, Westchester Division, where she received specialized training in CBT and DBT across inpatient and outpatient settings.
Dr. Walker completed her Pre-Doctoral Internship at Mount Sinai St. Luke’s Roosevelt Hospital, which included a rotation at the Comprehensive Adolescent Rehabilitation and Education Service (CARES) working with youth struggling with substance abuse, severe emotional, behavioral and academic problems. Her training has included an externship at Morgan Stanley Children’s Hospital where she provided therapeutic services to children, adolescents and their families presenting with diverse psychopathology.
Dr. Walker also completed an externship at New York-Presbyterian Hospital on the child and adolescent inpatient units. Dr. Walker has received extensive training in Trauma-Focused Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy (TF-CBT) as well as Alternatives for Families: A Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (AF-CBT), therapeutic approaches for children, adolescents and their families who have experienced a traumatic event.
Dr. Walker is a member of the American Psychological Association (APA) and the Association for Behavioral and Cognitive Therapies (ABCT). She has co-authored professional articles and presented research at national conferences on topics including DBT for pre-adolescent children, psychological well-being in emerging adults and social and emotional functioning. Dr. Walker is fluent in Spanish.
